In yet another double header weekend Rockets secured victory with a solid performance via a double digit lead for most of the game.
After an opening quarter where Sydney Donaldson scored 13 of Rockets 24 points , Scotty Hendricks found his shooting prowess with a brace of trebles including one where he was foiled and added the bonus to make a rare 4 point play as Rockets took command 24-13. The highlight of this period was a fast team break finished with a treble from Donaldson moments before Jonny Foulds took his customary charge to show Rockets determination to seek the win.
An Ali Sbai drive and score followed by a treble got Rockets up and away as the second quarter opened. A brilliant look by Foulds and cross court pass saw Joel Keeble stroke a treble though a 5-0 Crusaders run was stopped by Tim Gill score and a big Foulds defensive rebound. A Declan Soukup dish to Hendricks saw the shooting guard reach double figures before the interval which had Rockets leading 40-28.
The young and fast shooters from Kent again got off to a 6-0 run before Ed Potter took down an offensive rebound to score his first points of the game. A Potter dish to Sbai saw him stroke a treble and when Donaldson scored off the glass and Soukup scored with a floater, Rockets had a commanding 20 point lead at 59-39. Another Soukup floater was answered by a Kent treble as the final quarter beckoned and Rockets with a comfortable 64 -46 advantage.
But how Crusaders came out of the traps at the start of the fourth period shook Rockets as they were on the wrong end of a 10-0 run in the first three minutes and within 8 points of Rockets. The crowd awoke and suddenly ‘game on’ . The fast break and shooting specialists got closer still with just 1 minute 48 secs left at 75-70 but some great Rockets team play found the open man in the form of Jonny Foulds who stroked a vital treble for Rockets. The hosts struck again and called a time-out when just 6 points adrift but Donaldson found Gill, Foulds took another charge and Hendricks and Donaldson hit the penalty shots to secure another win and stay very much close to the top of the league.
Top scorers for Rockets were Scotty Hendricks with 21 pts., Sydney Donaldson with 19 pts., and Tim Gill with 11 pts
